Girl, wash some feet!
Today I was provided with an awesome opportunity to serve breast cancer survivors with foot reflexology. They were on a support retreat on the beautiful Sandbridge Beach. Every single one of them walked in saying “I’m sorry! My feet are sandy and dirty!”
To begin each session, I washed their feet with a refreshing wintergreen essential oil and began reflexology using castor oil. I did this over and over again, the almost one hundred women split up amongst just a couple of other reflexologist so it was a busy busy day! Great feedback, loving energy and fulfilling frequencies fueled my joy to continue serving them all with a humble, open heart. I was reminded of important truths. My vision renewed. Today was exactly what I needed. I was overflowing with joy.
-hold up.-
“So, not only did you massage feet, you washed dirty feet, and you are overjoyed?!” I know, from a calculated outsiders perspective it seems as if it could be daunting, humiliating and degrading right?
The extreme opposite actually.
Sure, it’s a humbling action- but there is more physically going on here: the client is reclining back, relaxing, bringing awareness into theirselves. A foot massage allows for less vulnerability than a full body massage as there is no undressing, and the client is still sitting up slightly and feels more in control and involved in the therapy.
Before washing feet held it’s religious connotation that we know today in many denominations around the world, it was a cultural and secular society’s daily way of hospitality, showing love, respect and friendship. Probably because the best idea of a shoe was a sandal but let us not discredit the ancient wisdom and intuitive humans that our ancestors were. They felt the same type of power that I did today. The type where you are pouring out love onto their feet and simultaneously you are being drenched in the love filtered through them with extra toppings if gratitude, relief and comfort. The human connection I fear that is being lost on us.
GIRL, WASH SOME FEET!
Maybe this ancient custom has become a long lost ritual- and maybe it would be too weird and other worldly. But my actual point is- love and touch can be unanimous. Love and platonic connection doesn’t have to be sensually intimate. Of course, consent and intent are key, especially in this day where so many of us feel the need to guard ourselves and even expect trauma or harm. But real, raw simple human connection- is so vital in creating real change in our world , i believe it to be our true purpose in life. No expectations. No rules and regulations placed upon them. Nothing more than “we are
One human family”. I dare you to wash some feet- to make connection, to show love. Hug. Hold hands. Offer a hand to assist. Offer a shoulder. Offer an ear. Offer your talent. Offer yourself. It’s all we have after all ❤️
